The holidays are upon us and we are blessed with the opportunity to center our hearts and minds around one of the seminal moments in God's passionate quest to be reconciled with His people. Let us be joyous as we celebrate the coming of the Messiah! Let us all receive the charge to share the love of Christ through a kind word or deed that will uplift someone in this season. Even in the joy of the season, I would be remised if I did not acknowledge the fact that some find this season to be very difficult due to separation from or loss of loved ones. With that in mind, we should all be intentional to understand and appropriately respond to those who desire companionship as well as those who desire space. Always remember that grief is the evidence of having experienced genuine love. Maintaining gratitude for and embracing the memories of that love will help you in difficult times. Fortunately, the love of Christ does not change and will be with you always!
I ask that our prayer focus for the rest of this year be on seeking God's will for our lives in 2019. Perhaps you have not been praying and reading God's word as much as you should. Maybe you have not been in right relationship with family members. Some may even be pondering taking a leap of faith into a new area that you feel called to. Whatever your situation, let us all take the time to seek God's will so that we can make ready for all that he has in store for us in the coming year.
This week's sermon will be the first of two that explore the Christmas Story. My prayer is that we all receive a fresh perspective which ushers us into a new level of intimacy with Christ. In a world which has commercialized Christmas, it is important that we connect to the real reason that we celebrate!
