International Council of Community Churches 2018 Annual Conference Theme: "Reunion 2018- Gateway to Glory"
Last week, Christine Cameron, Winnie West, Tom Friedberg, Ava Batson, Elaine McCreary, and myself attended the 68th annual conference in St. Louis, Missouri. Thank you for your prayers, and I will share some updates and takeaways from the meetings at today's service since the conference was still underway as I wrote this letter to you.
Trial Sermons and Guest ministers
Last Sunday, July 15, 2018 concluded the church's scheduled trial sermons for two candidates seeking to become the new pastor of our church. The next step in the church's process is to conduct a special congregational business meeting. That meeting has been announced for quite a while and is set for Sunday, August 19, 2018 following morning worship. You are encouraged to attend and participate in the voting process. All PCC members including associate members are eligible to participate in the voting. We've informed the membership of this upcoming special meeting but would appreciate your continuing to assist us in getting the word out to all of our members.
Also, I have scheduled a guest minister for the fifth Sunday, July 29, 2018, Reverend Oommen Thomas. He is not a candidate for the pastor's position. However, prior to my retirement, I wanted Rev. Thomas to bring us one more sermon. After his visit and sermon that will conclude guest ministers I will invite to the pulpit. For the rest of my time with the congregation, I will preach, God willing, throughout the months of August and September 2018 and as you already know, Sunday, September 30th, is my farewell sermon.

Also, there will be a fencing demonstration here on our grounds at 645 North Rocky River Drive where we razed the house that was located there. Mr. John Shaughnessy, owner of Wayside Furniture, will give the demonstration that will begin right after the memory ceremony. I've scheduled that to occur around 1:00pm or right after we finish eating.

As you know, our Church App provides you the option to make your financial donations effortlessly while away. If you have any questions, please contact one of our trustees or deacons.
As you may recall, in September 2017, Pastor McCreary announced that he will preach his last sermon on September 30th of this year and officially retire at the end of October 2018. Since that time, a Pulpit Committee was assembled, and we have been faithfully meeting and prayerfully reviewing submitted pastor applications. In keeping with our pledge of transparency, this note will share the progress of the committee's work as well as a proposed timeline of associated events.
We had a total of 13 applicants and have narrowed them down to 2. The top candidates' trial sermons will take place during the months of July and August. As members of PCC, your participation in this process is essential. Trial sermon dates are announced in the Pastor's Letter, please plan to attend. The membership's vote will take place on Sunday, August 19 after the trial sermons.
Please join us in asking for God's guidance, discernment, and wisdom as we go through this important process. His will be done! Thank you.
